Accounting Assistant

POSITION: Accounting Assistant

CITY: Aurora, ON


SALARY: $40,000 - $45,000/year +

Job Description:
  • Charges expenses and inventory purchases to accounts and cost centers by analyzing expense reports, purchase orders, receipts, invoices; and recording entries in accordance with the company's month end process
  • Reconciles processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances
  • Pays vendors by monitoring discount opportunities; processing checks, wires and other electronic payment methods; resolving purchase order, contract, invoice, or payment discrepancies and documentation; insuring credit is received for outstanding memos; and issuing stop-payments or purchase order amendments
  • Pays employees expenses by receiving, completing and verifying expense reports taking into consideration provincial and federal tax rules; and preparing checks
  • Maintains accounting ledgers by verifying and posting account transactions
  • Prepares monthly journal entry to accrue for known expenses such as utilities
  • Verifies vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions
  • Maintains historical records by filing documents
  • Disburses petty cash by recording entry; verifying documentation
Job Requirements:
  • Multi-tasking, take direction from different team members
  • Prioritize and successfully execute required tasks
  • Solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Think on your feet, outside the box
  • Attention to detail
  • College Diploma in either business finance, or accounting
  • Excellent computer skills. Advanced knowledge of MS Office
  • Sage/Accpac experience is an asset
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
